Asus is a top brand in gaming laptops. It’s in the same league as Alienware and other giants in the industry. With its TUF series and its premium ROG (Republic of Gamers) line, the Taiwanese manufacturer has something for everyone, from entry-level laptops to models packed with the latest GPU and CPU technology.
Despite its top-of-the-line specs the ROG Strix Scar 16 is a portable machine. The 17-inch screen runs at 144Hz to 244Hz and has the resolution of 1080p. This is high enough to give you a full-on experience. The battery can last for 6-8 hours when used in a variety of ways and the fans are quiet even when the device is under stress.
The Scar 16’s design features some gamer aesthetics but isn’t overly flashy. The lid’s prismatic design is the most striking feature. It catches light and shines through 8,279 tiny gaps to create an effect of rainbows. The laptop’s display hinge also lifts the rear of the chassis, which improves airflow and also makes the keyboard tilt towards you. Asus calls it its ErgoLift hinge.
This laptop is ideal for gaming, but it can also handle other tasks that require a lot of processing like editing video or image manipulation. It’s got plenty of ports — USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, HDMI 2.0b, 3.5mm combo jack and Gigabit Ethernet — plus a dedicated SD card slot. The speakers are strong, but can distort or become extremely loud when they are in high volume. You’ll want to pair them with headphones. The only downside is some minor unwanted programs that you’ll need to eliminate including McAfee Personal Security and the Dolby App.
